Your work stays on your computer.

Mirrortown is local-first. Here is exactly what the app and this website handle, and where it goes.

The short version

  • Your projects, populations, content and results are stored on your computer, not on our servers.
  • The content you test is sent only to the AI providers you set up yourself, with your own keys.
  • This website only processes your email and your AppSumo codes, to issue your license.
  • No ads, no tracking pixels, no analytics, no selling of data.

The desktop app

Mirrortown stores everything you create (workspaces, populations, tests, results, interviews and reports) in a local SQLite database on your machine. We never receive it.

To run a test, the app sends the content you are testing and the synthetic people’s profiles to Jev, through the provider whose key you added (TypeSafe or OpenRouter). If you add an OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or OpenRouter key, the app sends the relevant content to that provider for interviews, roundtables and reports. Those requests go directly from your computer to the provider and are covered by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Your API keys are kept on your computer.

Your license key contains your email, your tier, short fingerprints of your codes (not the codes themselves) and the date it was issued. The app checks it offline.

This website

When you redeem codes, your browser sends your email and codes to our serverless function, which checks the codes and returns a signed license. We don’t keep a database of redemptions. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard technical request logs, such as IP address and time, for a short period for security and operations, and we use your IP address briefly in memory to limit repeated attempts.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when your browser fetches them. The site remembers your light or dark theme choice in your browser’s local storage. It sets no cookies.

AppSumo

Purchases, payments and refunds happen on AppSumo, under AppSumo’s privacy policy. We don’t receive your payment details.

Support emails

If you write to us, we use your email only to answer you. Please don’t send API keys or your full license key.

Your choices

You can delete your Mirrortown data at any time by deleting it in the app or uninstalling it and removing its data folder. To ask about anything we hold (in practice, support emails), write to brokenwatchceo@gmail.com.
